This project was initiated in 1973 and carried out until 1997. Its goal was to generate primary source materials for scholarly use. The interviews covered subjects relevant at that time, namely, the local history of the Japanese Occupation period and immediate post-war Singapore. It was later expanded to includeautobiographical memoirs of prominent personalities who were highly regarded in their respective fields such as business, education, and politics.
The project was revived in early 2015 on a much smaller scale and thematically aligned with ISEAS’ current research direction.
